Today MCSE’s Heather Neuwirth and office interns Hannah Quinn ’16, Moria Sloan ’15, and Joanie Thompson ’14 visited MCSE Fellow Jeannie Bartlett ’15 in the field.

Jeannie is working this summer in partnership with both Middlebury FoodWorks and the Middlebury Center for Social Entrepreneurship. Jeannie is a Farm and Food Educator at the Hannaford Career Center in Middlebury where she manages the Center’s farm.

Three days a week Jeannie runs activities for Addison County elementary and middle school students who participate in helping to manage the farm. Today, despite looming clouds, the group checked on the chickens, changed their feed and water and moved the mobile coop to give the chickens fresh bedding and bugs. Other activities Jeannie does with the students include feeding and caring for the farm’s pigs, and weeding and managing the vegetable garden.
