Center for Social Entrepreneurship

at Middlebury

Welcome to the SE!

Whether you’re an innovator with a great idea or someone interested in learning more about social entrepreneurship, the SE Program offers a number of programs and resources to help you. Based on our conviction that social entrepreneurship education is integral to the 21st-century liberal arts, we offer students, faculty, staff, and alumni opportunities to reflect, connect, analyze, and engage with the world around them.

On this website, you can learn about the programming and resources that we offer to the Middlebury community as well as others interested in social entrepreneurship:

– Through the academic year, we offer a regular Reflection Friday speaker series, sharing stories of our fellows, Middlebury staff and faculty as well as community members by asking them “what matters to me and why”.

– Our annual symposium is a celebration every January of social entrepreneurship on our campus and beyond.

– Our annual Bread Loaf faculty and staff forum is a chance for leaders from campuses across the United States to reflect on the past academic year and plan for the year ahead.

– We offer students an opportunity to apply for our summer grant challenge (up to $3000) as well as a prestigious multi-year fellowship.

Learn more about our mission and team, take a look at our blog, and come visit us at the SE house. For support for a project, please visit our Project Resource Page.  We additionally invite you to subscribe to our weekly newsletter for updates on events, opportunities and resources.

We hope to see you here soon!

The Center was established thanks to the generosity of Alan Hassenfeld and the Hassenfeld Family Foundation. Hassenfeld, the former CEO at Hasbro Inc., has been a leader in corporate philanthropy over the long course of his business career.
