Margaret Crotty

Speaker Series in Axinn 219, Fridays 12:30-1:30This year, Margaret took on the position of executive director of Partnership with Children. Founded over 100 years ago as Big Sisters, Partnership with Children strives to help underserved children and youth in New York City. Margaret is the director of EVERY ONE, the International Save the Children Alliance’s $2 billion initiative to reduce child mortality in the developing world.

Margaret has a range of experience in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors in the areas of education travel and training. Previously, she was the president and CEO of AFS Intercultural Programs/USA, formerly the American Field Service, which has provided intercultural exchanges for over 300,000 high school students since 1947. She also served as the Executive Director of StreetWise Partners, a workforce development agency in New York City and Washington, DC. Maragaret spent 7 years at the global corporation EF Education, where she lived in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Paris. She oversaw marketing, operations, and all European businesses for the EF’s online language education company, and later served as President of the higher education businesses.

Margaret serves on the boards of several youth-serving and education non-profit organizations.

Margaret received her BA from Princeton University and her MBA from the Harvard Business School. After graduating from Princeton, she spent two years with Save the Children consulting on and evaluating community development programs.

She is married to Rory B. Riggs, Middlebury class of 1975, who has been a leader in launching, developing, and funding Middlebury’s Project on Creativity and Innovation in the Liberal Arts, which encourages students “to take intellectual risks, think creatively, and create new knowledge through non-graded environments.” Rory is the Managing Member of Balfour LLC, a firm specializing in early-stage entrepreneurial activities in healthcare and biotechnology. He has been affiliated with ITIM Corp. and Pharmaceutical Partners LLC. Previously, Rory served as the President, Director and CFO at Biomatrix Inc. He was the acting President and CEO of RF&P Corporation. Until 1990, he served as a Managing Director in the Mergers and Acquisitions Department at PaineWebber Incorporated, where he was employed for more than nine years. Rory has also served as an Associate at Strategic Planning Associates, the predecessor company to Mercer Management Consulting and has been involved in the start-up of many companies. Rory has held many director positions. Rory received a B.A. degree from Middlebury College and an M.B.A. degree from the Columbia University.
