Otto Nagengast ’17
Otto grew up in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. As a teenager, he traveled several times to The Gambia, West Africa, including a five-month stay when he was fifteen. His time in The Gambia convinced him that he has a moral obligation to serve others. In 2013, he graduated from United World College USA.
Through his studies of Economics at Middlebury, Otto has learned to deconstruct large problems into smaller parts in order to get at the root of issue, particularly through the use of quantitative analysis. Through his Ambassador Corps experience, Otto hopes to learn about how to bridge the gap between abstract theorizing and improving the lives of real people. He will spend his summer in Rwanda working with Spark MicroGrants, an organization that “promotes a ‘community-driven, expert supported’ model for development.”
He will spend next fall at the Middlebury C.V. Starr School in Africa in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
