As Bill and Julia look back on sixteen years of establishing Alta Gracia, a sustainable coffee farm and literacy center in the mountains of the Dominican Republic, they assess the gracias garnished and the lessons learned.

Bill Eichner is an ophthalmologist and farmer in Weybridge, Vermont; Julia Alvarez is an author and writer in residence at Middlebury College, and a native of the Dominican Republic.
