Garrett, a member of Middlebury College’s Board of Trustees, is currently the senior managing director and was the COO of the Private Equity Group at the Blackstone Group in New York. Prior to joining Blackstone in 2005, Garrett was a Senior Principal and the President of MMC Capital (Stone Point Capital). Before joining MMC Capital, he worked at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette for twenty years. His last position there was Vice Chairman and co-head of the Banking Group. He joined DLJ in 1982 as an investment-banking associate. He was Vice Chairman and co-head of the investment banking integration effort and subsequently was the head of CSFB’s Private Equity Division.
He is on the National Board of Directors for the Posse Foundation, an organization which identifies high achieving, under-served high school seniors, and provides them with an opportunity to attend a partner four-year college (such as Middlebury College, a Posse partner for 13 years) or university. He formerly served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Brunswick School.
He received a BA from Middlebury College and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
He retired at the end of June 2012, to increase his involvement in the non-profit or public service sectors. He has recently been appointed to the Acumen Fund’s investment committee. Garrett recently revealed his interest in the work of the Middlebury Center for Social Entrepreneurship. Garrett’s daughter graduated from Middlebury in 2010.
