Jeannie is a senior Environmental Studies major with a Conservation Biology focus. She served as Co-President of the Socially Responsible Investing Club and is currently a member of the Advisory Committee on Socially Responsible Investing. Jeannie also works as a Student Organizer of Divest Middlebury, the group working for Middlebury’s divestment from fossil fuels. She is a resident of Weybridge House (the local foods and environmental studies house), where weekly she helps cook meals for around 20 people using entirely local ingredients. This past winter she interned at the Charter House, the housing shelter in Middlebury, and she continues to volunteer there weekly.
Last summer Jeannie participated in the Middlebury FoodWorks program, which organizes food-related internships in the Middlebury area and engages students in the broader food system through 5th day programming. She worked as a Farm and Food Educator at the Hannaford Career Center. Along with the other intern, she managed the center’s farm which includes vegetables, chickens and hogs. Three mornings a week she ran activities for a middle school summer camp that came to the farm. This summer Jeannie is continuing her work with the MiddSummer camp, where she directs an elective morning activity to engage middle schoolers in the natural world, especially as it provides food and supports life. Activities include building natural shelters, foraging, and practicing close observation and curiosity.
